Artists travel to my workshops from all over the United States, Canada and beyond. The workshops have become a creative destination for artists to explore Portland's unique creative culture, restaurants and surrounding natural beauty.
My studio is centrally located in the Overlook neighborhood of North Portland and immediately off of the I-5 Freeway. You can take the Max Lightrail from Portland International Airport which stops three blocks from my studio or you can take it directly to most of the hotels suggested below. The studio is a short walk to the Historic Mississippi District for breakfast or dinner options.
The Monticello Motel that my studio is conveniently located behind, is a clean, family owned and reasonably priced budget motel that has been favorably reviewed by former students.
Wheather you want the whole place to yourself or a private room, Airbnb is an affordable and convenient option in North Portland, including a single occupancy room at my place.
If my room is already booked, there are many other Airbnb options that are a short walk or drive to my studio. Search "Overlook Portland" for nearest locations. My neighbor Linda has a private room just down the street called "An Urban Sanctuary."
The popular boutique hotel is located in the heart of Portland's West End District, Ace Hotel close to the MAX Lightrail, Portland Streetcar, Powell's books and a host of restaurants and shops. Immediately convenient at the ground level of the hotel are the highly recommended Clyde Common, and Stumptown Coffee.
My studio is a 25 minute ride on the Max Yellow line or a ten minute drive from this location.
With rooms fashioned from classrooms, this former elementary school, fully restored to its original splendor, makes for a unique hotel. Contained within it is a movie theater, soaking pool, courtyard restaurant and even a Detention Room Bar where smoking cigars is allowed!
The Kennedy School is in the Northeast Concordia neighborhood of Portland and is a 15 minute drive to my studio.
This stylish luxury boutique hotel is in the heart of downtown Portland and conveniently located on the Max Yellow Line to my studio. A fireside spot for dinner or happy hour on the patio is a must at the hotel's Nel Centro restaurant and bar. There is even a large encaustic portrait in the hotel lobby by one of my former students!
