What is Encaustic Collagraph?
This one-day intro workshop in my Portland studio will give you a taste of what is possible with Encaustic Collagraph. The class covers the various steps of the Encaustic Collagraph technique that I pioneered, merging specific techniques of encaustic painting with that of collagraph printmaking.

This one-day session can be the perfect add-on to my In-Studio two-day encaustic workshop Context: Science & Nature if you want to get a quick intro to the Encaustic Collagraph method.

Description
A comprehensive demonstration will cover applying Wagner Encaustic Collagraph White wax. We will break the rules of encaustic, taking advantage of the exploitable textures of encuastic in the form of a print through the use of mark making, incising, embossing, and the use of a tacking iron and heated mark making tools. An in depth overview of Akua Inks and mediums as well as wiping techniques will also be covered. You will learn some basic rudiments of encaustic and printmaking then, we will dive in using various common tools of each medium.

You will first create the collagraph plate on plexiglas, then, we will begin applying ink, intaglio wiping and printing using Akua Intaglio Inks. The plate that you create in this intro workshop can also be saved, modified and reused to come back and print from again and again for limited editions.

The Workshop includes one reusable 10 x 10 inch plexiglass plate for your collagraph, Arnehm 1618 paper, collagraph white wax, Akua Inks, tools, wiping cloth, tissue paper and newsprint. We will be printing on a 24" x 48" Takach Etching Press. Additional plates and paper available for purchase.
